What will my first session look like?
At your first session, the primary goal is to establish a foundation for the therapeutic relationship and gather essential information to better understand your concerns and goals. You might be asked to complete some paperwork, including forms related to your personal information, consent for treatment, and confidentiality agreements. Together we will discuss the information provided and discuss treatment goals and expectations.
Are your services confidential?
In accordance with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario confidentiality must always be kept with the exception of our legislated duty to report child abuse and neglect concerns, or a person who is at immediate risk of self-harm or of harm to others, and our duty to provide court ordered information. Otherwise information is always protected, and will not be shared without your permission. Further details can be discussed during your first session.
What are your therapeutic approaches?
Psychotherapy encompasses a variety of therapeutic approaches, each with its own theoretical foundations and techniques. My main therapeutic approaches are: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Person-Centered Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness-Based Therapies, Trauma-Informed Approach.
How are your services funded?
Psychotherapy services may be funded by the personal extended health care benefits through your employer. Services are not covered by OHIP. Some insurance companies require the client to pay and then to submit for reimbursement. Our clinic also has the option to complete direct billing. Please contact your insurance provider first to ensure that you have psychotherapy service coverage prior to attending your appointments to avoid frustrations and having to pay out of pocket.
How often do I see my therapist?
This depends on your preference, your therapist’s recommendation, scheduling, and availability. Sessions are typically once a week, and treatments vary in length from weeks to months to years.
The length of your treatment will be up to you, based on your issues and goals. To ensure that your treatment remains productive, from time to time, you and I will check in with each other to make sure that treatment remains focused on your goals and continues to help you move forward.
What is your cancellation policy?
A minimum of 24 hours notice is required for rescheduling or cancellation of an appointment. If for any reason a session is canceled less than 24 hours prior, the full fee will be charged.
